December 5, 1525 – Hans Schlaffer

How many Christians today would die for being a follower of Christ. But what about dying for a point of disputed doctrine? Bible-believing Christians debate the issue of infant baptism but how many of us would give our life over it? I wouldn’t but Hans Schlaffer did. A former Catholic priest, Schlaffer converted over to the Anabaptists after his interaction with their leaders like Hans Hus in Nikolsburg, Austria (which today is called Mikulov in the Czech Republic pictured here). He was arrested on December 5, 1525, for refusing to recant his newfound belief that, because infant baptism is not in the Bible, it’s not biblical. After his arrest and torture, he was burned at the stake just a few days later.
