December 27, 537 – Hagia Sophia

The greatest basilica of the Greek Orthodox Church was the Hagia Sophia built in then-Constantinople. It was consecrated on December 27, 537, and served as the home of the patriarchs of the church. In the mid-1400’s it was taken over by Turks and was a Muslim mosque and is now a museum. This is a picture of the inside that can be seen on tours today.
