March 9, 1948 – Civilla Durfee Martin

“His Eye in on the Sparrow” and “God Will Take Care of You” are just two of the hymns written by Civilla Durfee Martin who died on March 9, 1948 in Atlanta, Georgia. She and her husband wrote several hymns but her most famous one (His Eye is on the Sparrow) was the marquee song by jazz great Ethel Waters who came to know the Lord at a Billy Graham crusade. Civilla and her husband were visiting a couple in Elmira, NY who had been bed-ridden and wheel-chair bound for 20 years and Civilla asked them how they made it. Their answer was knowing God watches over us because Luke 12:6-7 says even the sparrows are under His protection.
